Join our bird enthusiast, Vernon, for an easy walk while looking and listening for our feathered friends. Discover different types of birds and their habitats. Bring your own binoculars and field guides apps if you have them. Beginners and experienced birdwatchers are welcome!
This program involves navigating on both paved and natural surface trails. Participants should be comfortable moving at a slow pace for up to 1 mile and may birdwatch either by ear or by sight using binoculars. If needed, please complete the ADA Modification Request Form during the registration process so we can best support your participation.
Minors must attend with a registered adult, and all participants must pre-register.

Want to know all about staying in the Overnight Lodge at Blue Jay Point County Park? Complete information will be provided at the Leader Orientation Workshop or LOW, which is conducted by Blue Jay staff once a month for those coming to stay in the Lodge. At least one representative from each group staying in the Lodge MUST attend a LOW at least two months prior to that group's reservation date.
LOWs are also appropriate for individuals interested in knowing if a Lodge stay would be beneficial for their group, even before making a Lodge reservation. An introductory level course of drawing for beginners and those wishing to refresh their skills. Includes using a sketchbook for line drawing exercises on seeing to draw, quick sketching, mapping for accuracy, and other basic principles of drawing.
This is a live Zoom format class divided into a group session for lecture, demonstrations, and group critique with the instructor followed by one-on-one individual appointments for consultation and problem solving.

Join author Kelly Starling Lyons on August 1 at 2 p.m. to listen to her illustrated children’s book Ellen's Broom, and learn about the story's background and the author's inspiration. Participants will enjoy a powerful story about preserving strong family ties in the face of injustice, the merging of new and old traditions, and the history of "jumping the broom." For a reminder of these important lessons, each participant will make a mini-broom pencil to take home! Free and open to all ages but recommended for ages 5–10. Registration is required for all participating children, and all kids must have a supervising adult(s).
The program will take place indoors in the park's climate-controlled Main House, followed by a craft activity.

Imagination & Wonder: Poetrio string trio and live poetry performance Date & time: August 1st, 6-8 pm Description of event: Join us for a performance featuring songs and original poems evoking awe, creativity, and wonder. As adults we often lose touch with our childlike sense of wonder, play, and curiosity. This performance aims to celebrate and reinvigorate that. Poems will be performed to a variety of songs ranging from classical composers such as Bach and Vivaldi, to contemporary artists such as Sigur Ros and Muse. Leave feeling rejuvenated and refreshed from the meditative experience of this journey through sound, words and imagery. There will be a short reception at the end with light fare and an option to meet and greet the poets and musicians.
What better way to enjoy a summer day than with lunch and yard games?! Pack a picnic, gather your friends and family, and join us for a relaxing break from busy schedules. Youth under 16 must be accompanied by a registered adult. Registration is required.
