This dynamic 60 minute immersive multimedia presentation illuminates the extraordinary life and legacy of Sister Rosetta Tharpe—the true blueprint of modern music. Long before rock 'n' roll had a name, Sister Rosetta wielded her electric guitar with unmatched power, blending sacred gospel with audacious showmanship that would define generations of music genres to come.
Through active learning games, fun discussions, projected visual storytelling, and digital archival footage of her electrifying performances, audiences will discover how this pioneering Black woman broke every barrier within the turbulent 1930s-1940s, creating a blueprint that stretches from gospel to punk rock. By program's end, participants will move beyond the limiting "Godmother of Rock 'n' Roll" title to recognize her as the foundational "BLUEPRINT" whose faith, talent, and fearless use of spectacle shaped the soundtrack of American Popular culture and its music! This interdisciplinary arts experience challenges what we think we know about music history while celebrating innovation, faith, and self-determination.
