Join Durham County Library for a journey to the distant past where great beasts strode the lands and North Carolina was the domain of mighty creatures known as the HELL PIGS.
Much of North Carolina’s fossil record over the last 100 million years is derived from marine environments, often excluding fossils from terrestrial ecosystems. New fossils collected from Jones County and deposited in the early Miocene, about 20 million years ago, are beginning to shed light on an unusual land mammal fauna from our state that includes hell pigs, red pandas, rhinos.
Hear Sean Moran, Collection Manager for Paleontology & Geology describe these magnificent creatures and the world they lived in and gain a glimpse into a very different era of North Carolina history.
