About the event

Durham County Library is hosting a 6-week college-level course on fiction writing, taught by Redbud Writing Project. In-person instruction will take place on Wednesday evenings for 6 weeks, though there will be additional coursework to be completed on your own time (readings and writing exercises). Space is strictly limited, so those interested will need to apply for a spot.

Applications should include a one-page fiction writing sample (excerpts from previously written stories are fine) as well as acknowledgement that you are able to attend all 6 meetings and complete additional coursework as assigned by the instructor. If you have scheduling conflicts, please leave spots open for others who are interested. Applications will be accepted between Feb. 1 - Feb. 15, 2026, with a rolling admissions process. Students will receive notification of their acceptance by end of day, Feb. 20.

Please send submissions (with writing sample attached) via email to plocey@dconc.gov, with the subject heading "Fiction Writing Course Application."

This course offering is made possible by a generous grant from the Friends of the Durham Library.
