About the event

BATS!

Who? What? Where? When? Why?

The only mammals that can fly...

Their wings are nearly identical to a human hand...their order name, Chiroptera, translates to “hand wing” in Greek...

Using sonar they can determine the distance, size, shape, and texture of objects in their flight path...avoiding objects as small as string in total darkness...

North Carolina is home to 17 species of which multiple species are threatened, endangered or status of special concern....

A single one can consume thousands of insects in a single evening...

Who are these creatures of the night? What is the fungus that is decimating populations across the United States? Where do bats sleep during the day? When can you see bats? Why are you more likely to be exposed to rabies from a racoon, fox, cat or dog?
