SUMMARY:Mallarmé Family Concert: The Woman Who Fell From the Sky and othe
 r stories
DESCRIPTION:Join Mallarmé as we present the New River Ensemble as they te
ll an indigenous American story of the creation of the world and the sto
ry of John Henry and automation in life today. There will be a tour the
zoo with music from Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals and a re-imagin
ing of songs for beginning musicians Book 1: The Klezmer Set and our arr
angements from Debussy’s Children’s Corner.\n\nFamily Concerts are hour-
long concerts appropriate for anyone 5 years and older and are FREE! \n\
nNew River Ensemble draws upon a wide array of influences to present cha
mber music programs for general audiences and for kids and families\, fi
lm scores\, and educational workshops that tug at the boundaries that tr
aditionally bind “chamber music ensembles.” NRE moves smoothly from stan
dard repertoire to modern composition\, from extended techniques to impr
ovisation. Their programs juxtapose pieces from different time periods a
nd genres\, challenging audiences to hear these pieces in a new light. I
n addition to mining the clarinet and flute trio repertoire of the past
centuries\, NRE arranges and composes much of their own music. The membe
rs of NRE are Martha Hyde (clarinet\, flute\, saxophone\, composer)\, Li
sa Liske (cello)\, and Brendan Cooney (piano\, plucked strings).\n\nSpon
sored by Mark and Cindy Kuhn\n\nSource: Durham County Library\nhttps://d
