About the event

Join Chris and Mindy Meyers from Home Repair Lab to learn about home fundamentals! This lecture-focused class will help you understand how your home operates, give you knowledge to interact with service providers, and be your own advocate. Relevant for homeowners, first time home buyers, and renters. The first hour will be lecture, followed by Q&A.

More detailed class description:

Home Fundamentals helps you understand the systems that provide comfort and safety in a home, structural, plumbing and electrical. You'll learn technique, terminology and materials used to build each system.

Structural explores foundations, framing, roofs, structural load, drywall and lots more. Pluming examines rural water/waste vs. city water/waste as well as the materials and fixtures that supply water and remove waste from the home. Electrical sheds light on how power is brought to and distributed throughout a home, from panels and sub-panels to circuits, breakers, receptacles and appliances.

If you have any accessibility questions or accommodation needs, please contact us at Maker_STEAM@dconc.gov. We ask that all requests be made at least 3 business days prior to the event to ensure we can provide the best accommodations possible.
