 n\n \n\n\n\n \n\nChris Vitiello is a Durham-based writer\, critic\, perf
 ormer\, and poet. His most recent poetry books are Irresponsibility and 
 Obedience (both Ahsahta Press). As the Poetry Fox\, he writes custom poe
 ms on-demand on vintage typewriters at around 250 events a year. After w
 inning the 2017 ArtPrize Pitch Night\, he took his performance installat
 ion The Language Is Asleep to the Grand Rapids Art Museum\, and has repr
 ised the immersive work for Duke University’s StoryCon\, Raleigh’s Block
  Gallery\, the Greensboro Project Space\, and Augusta\, GA’s Westobou. H
 is Writing Cabinet project—crossing the confessional with the fortune te
 lling cabinet—consists of a giant armoire that returns poetic responses 
 to your worries\, memories\, fears\, hopes\, and more. Vitiello also wri
 tes for newspapers and magazines about art and performance\, and won the
  2017 Rabkin Prize for Visual Arts Journalism. As a teacher\, he has lec
 tured and led poetry workshops in public/private K-12 schools\, universi
 ty MFA programs\, corporate and arts settings\, and prisons and elder ca
 re facilities. He also organizes community art events throughout the Tri
 angle and has curated exhibitions at the Ackland Art Museum at UNC-Chape
 l Hill and at The Carrack and The Fruit in Durham.\n\n \n\nThe laureate 
 program is a part of the City of Durham Cultural & Public Art Program. \
